When you think of Caribbean food, what do you think of? Spicy chicken and beef dishes, stews, plump roti, doubles and patties? Washing everything down with sorrel or peanut punch? Keep that thought. Now what comes to mind when you think of Caribbean food in Montreal? If one of the first places that comes to mind is the iconic Caribbean Curry House in Cote-des-Neiges, then congratulations, you know what’s up. I’m happy to let you OGs know that your favourite Caribbean oasis has recently opened their second location! Can you guess where? That’s right, Caribbean Curry House is bringing the tastes and flavours of the islands… to the WEST island!
Jamaican
I have something to confess; I’ve been holding out on you. I’ve been asked many times and I’m always hesitant on revealing my favourite place for Jamaican food in Montreal… but for a good reason. Ok I lied, there’s no reason. I’m greedy and selfish and wanted to keep this spot for myself. You can’t tell, but I’m rolling my eyes as I write this because it’s not like Boom J’s is a secret. Anyone who knows anything about Jamaican food (even if you don’t) knows that this spot slaps. From what I think is probably the best jerk chicken in Montreal to steaming bowls curry goat and the fluffiest spicy beef patties, Boom J’s in the Point is your authentic taste of the islands.
I love eating hot and spicy foods. But what’s even better is eating hot and spicy foods in the summer. In the thick of summer, there’s something to be said about eating foods that make you sweat like a 16 year old when someone asks to use their bedroom computer. Hot and sweltering weather paired with a frosty glass of something fizzy, inhaling a plate that hopefully was cooked by fire… the best. Word got to me that there was a new Caribbean place in the Plateau that I had to check out. So I hit up the newest and hottest jerk shack east of The Main, Local Jerk.
