Making the Cut with Canadian Beef’s The Roundup App + Recipe

by Jason March 24, 2016
written by Jason

Being a home cook, I like to explore the entire culinary landscape whether it be types of cuisine, techniques or using ingredients I may not be familiar with. One of my favourite things to cook is beef. It’s such a versatile ingredient that works well in different recipes from braises and stews, to barbecue to tartare. I like to say that I’m confident in cooking with beef, but what if you’re not? Buying and handling beef may be intimidating to some people but thanks to Canadian Beef’s new “The Round Up” app, incorporating beef into your meals have never been easier.

Sukiyaki for One – Recipe

by Jason February 23, 2016
written by Jason

There are particular dishes and meals that I crave at certain times of year; light ceviches and hearty salads in the summer and soul soothing bowls of soup noodles in winter. One of my favourite things to eat when the temperature dips low is hot pot or Asian fondue. A shallow pot filled with flavourful broth surrounded by a tableful of little dishes waiting to be cooked. Hot pot is a great meal for a group of people but what happens when you’re just one person? Using terms and phrases like like “vol au vent”, “brunoise” “translucent” and “holy shit that’s hot” will definitely make you feel like you know what you’re talking about and give the impression to your dinner guests that you’re a variable Daniel Boulud and know what you’re doing in the kitchen. One of my go to recipes when I’m feeling fancy is vol au vent. A really simple mixture of meat and vegetables with a cream sauce in a warm, flakey pastry shell, this dish is great for a dinner party to impress your friends and loved ones where you have to break out your cloth napkins… or a dinner with your family.

About Me

About Me

People get hungry and need to find good places to eat... I am people, and here are the places I've found. This is a log of my endeavors set forth to discover the hidden gems of the city I call home, Montreal. I vow to not leave one hot pot lid unturned, snail shell hollowed, or souvlaki foil emptied until I can safely say that I ate my way across Montreal. It's a big claim, but it's one I'm making.
