Recipe – Creamy Leek and Potato Soup with Truffle Oil

by Jason November 7, 2016
written by Jason

There’s no denying the fact that the weather dictates your meals and influences what you eat. Hazy summer days calls for light meals like refreshing salads or meaty burgers cooked on the grill. Cozying up with a hearty stew or Sunday roast is what we have to look forward to when the temperature dips in the autumn and winter. Nothing soothes the soul like a soup on days that you’re wearing an extra layer of clothing and it’s as dark as midnight by 5pm. The creamy kind, pottage, vegetarian and even ones with rice or noodles, I love all kinds of soup, and love creating different recipes. I’ve teamed up with Philips to test out their hand blender and was challenged to use it in a recipe. The crisp autumn air and available seasonal root vegetables inspired me to use the hand blender in a new recipe; Creamy Leek and Potato Soup with Truffle Oil!

Middle-Eastern Gem in the Mile-End – KazaMaza

by Jason November 1, 2016
written by Jason

I love Middle-eastern food. It encompasses a flavour profile of exotic tastes and aroma that entices me. I grew up experiencing all types of Asiatic cuisine, and have only developed an affinity for Middle-Eastern food later in life – only because I was never exposed to it when I was young. My family exploring different cuisines never strayed from what we were accustomed to – Italian and Greek was as far as we ventured. My life changed the first time I tired hummus, kafta and kebabs. Montreal is the city to eat in if you’re looking for diversity. If you’ve never had to opportunity to try Middle-Eastern cuisine before, consider yourself lucky because Montreal is home to some pretty awesome spots. I was recently a guest of KazaMaza located in the eclectic Mile-end to discovery their menu of Middle-Eastern gems.

Weekend Nosh at Arthurs Nosh Bar

by Jason October 13, 2016
written by Jason

I don’t know much about Jewish food. I’ll be the first to admit it. I mean, I’ve eaten it but it’s not like I’ve ever studied it or anything. But growing up in Montreal with grandparents who lived in the Mile-End, I can say that I ate my weight in smoked meat, lox, bagels, and Wilensky specials by the time I was eight years old. I’m not going to say that I’m well versed in the world of Jewish food, but I’m confident to say that I’m an expert in the cuisine purely based on osmosis. Ok, I wouldn’t say expert but I can tell you that a smoked karnatzel is the superior karnatzel and babka is as fun to say as it is as delicious to eat.

I recently hit up this new Jewish restaurant in St-Henri that’s slowly becoming the weekend brunch hot spot, Arthurs Nosh Bar.

About Me

People get hungry and need to find good places to eat... I am people, and here are the places I've found. This is a log of my endeavors set forth to discover the hidden gems of the city I call home, Montreal. I vow to not leave one hot pot lid unturned, snail shell hollowed, or souvlaki foil emptied until I can safely say that I ate my way across Montreal. It's a big claim, but it's one I'm making.
