I recently polled my Instagram how everyone defines brunch. Is it the food that dictates what brunch is? The time? The day? Answers were varied. Some think that brunch is explicitly regulated to Sundays after 10am, others will say anytime after noon. I also received answers that it’s the type of foods eaten that makes a meal brunch. This blows my mind; eggs Benedict = breakfast, eggs Benedict with avocado and smoked salmon = brunch. I don’t get it, but what I do get is that I’ve succumbed to the ritual of rolling out of bed on a Sunday and rushing to line up to eat breakfast. This week I checked out a spot that’s quickly becoming a favourite of mine, Amy’s Déjeuner.
"brunch"
Once upon a time, I was not a fan of brunch. I disliked the idea of having a whole new set of rules and restrictions of what food identified as to be categorized as another meal. But I overcame, no titles will define my meals. Maybe it was just because it was embarrassing to include brunch in the list of meals I ate in a day; breakfast, second breakfast, brunch, pre-dinner, dinner and second-dinner. To be fair, you can’t blame me when Montreal has so many great brunch options. To add to the growing list, this week I checked out the newest location of Tommy Cafe at Fairview Pointe-Claire.
New brunch spot – Pointe-Claire Deli serves more than just diner food with flair
One of the best things about the Montreal restaurant scene is the diversity in its options. From fine dining, casual, to street food, and food trucks, we’ve got it all. Through the years of exploring Montreal restaurants, some of my favourite ones are the low-key neighbourhood spots. Places that even though I might not live in the area, is worth the drive to check out. Especially brunch. I don’t live in Rosemount or Verdun, but periodically will drive through traffic to eat at Regine and Janine. Or check out the Plateau and Mile-End for weekend grub at Dinette Triple Crown (when they start their brunch season) or India Rosa’s Indian inspire brunch fare. Click here for other other options. I checked out a spot that has been around for years, but only found out about recently after it came under new ownership. I went to Pointe-Claire Deli for weekend brunch.
