I love taking takings of my food – which is quite obvious if you follow me on Instagram and because I write this blog. I like to consider myself an amateur food pornographer, if that’s even a thing. It should be, because that’s what I am. If you don’t know what “Food Porn” is Wikipedia defines it as: “Food porn is a glamourized spectacular visual presentation of cooking or eating in advertisements, infomercials, blogs, cooking shows or other visual media, foods boasting a high fat and calorie content, exotic dishes that arouse a desire to eat or the glorification of food as a substitute for sex.” That pretty much sums it up. Who better than industry chefs to be the finest purveyors of food porn. Making list of the past year’s most memorable meals is like asking a parent to try and pick their favourite child… In the past year, I can safely say that I may have had more than one memorable meal that consisted of mind blasting dishes that I periodically reminisce about, recounting tastes and flavours, textures and cooking techniques like some sort of culinary Rain Man. Going back revisiting past reviews and write-ups about some of Montreal’s tastiest tables, not only led me to realize the calibre of gastronomic fortitude that this city encompasses, but the skill, passion and talent that exudes from kitchens across the island both new and old.
The last time I believed “the hype”, I was left with a Razor scooter, a mini disc player, acid washed overalls and the shame of being a 30 year old with a banker box filled with limited edition Beanie Babies. I’ve been hearing good things about this burger spot downtown that’s been making waves in the wake of its burger joint predecessor. At first I was skeptical; how are you going to open a restaurant selling hamburgers in a location that was famous for selling hamburgers? It’s like when my local Chinese chop shop, Soup and Noodles, was sold and then reopened as, “Super Noodle”.
